Aqua Dams are lightweight, easy to handle, and can be used in virtually any location.
On-site requirements are just a portable pump and the usually abundant local water supply. This means Aqua Dam is ideal for water control projects such as stream or lake bed construction diversions, coffer damming, or environmental pollution confinement and silt control. Aqua Dam provides fast, effective relief for tougher applications such as mud slides, hazardous waste control and flooding. Aqua Dam is also an ideal choice for preventing overtopping of levees, which is the number one cause of levee failure.
THE CONCEPT
Amazingly simple, Aqua Dams are a patented idea that combines three or more polyethylene or woven geo-tech tubes and any available water supply. Two 'inner' tubes, contained by an outer 'master' tube, are pumped full of water simultaneously. Counter friction between the master and inner tubes results in a stable, non-rolling 'wall' of contained water, which adjusts automatically to bottom terrain as the Aqua Dam deploys. Within minutes, an impervious, solid Aqua Dam is formed.
THE DESIGN
Aqua Dams are environmentally safe and specifically engineered to provide rapid deployment. It is a stable barrier of water to contain, divert, and control the flow of water.
The Aqua Dam concept combines multiple inner tubes within an outer tube to provide an effective portable dam to control the flow of water. |
The unique, patented design consists of four basic components:
-
Multiple impermeable inner tubes which are filled with water to provide the mass needed for stability.
-
A strong, woven outer tube which contains the inner tubes and provides the structural integrity of the system.
-
Water for mass weight.
-
Collar for joining two or more Aqua Dams together.
All materials used in the construction of the Aqua Dams are flexible to allow them to conform to uneven terrain to obtain an effective seal between the ground and the structure.
Two or more Aqua Dams may be joined together to form structures of any workable length. A coupling collar, manufactured from the same high-strength woven material as the outer tube, aligns the structure.
The unique combination of properties of Aqua Dams makes them ideal for a wide variety of applications.
A few of the more common uses include:
-
Water diversions during pipeline installation in and around rivers or standing water.
-
Water containment during repairs on bridges, sewage systems and power plants.
-
Easy, rapidly deployed flood control.
-
Erosion control through diversion or containment of flowing water.
-
Temporary reservoirs for water storage.
-
Temporary containment of spilled materials.
-
Silt containment and sediment collection.
The standard Aqua Dam system is filled from one end only via two inner tubes. The closed end is fitted with a collar that allows two Aqua Dams to be linked together. Utilizing the linking collars allows the Aqua Dams to be customized to meet the individual needs of the job site.
The open ended system can be filled from either open end. This system is appropriate when placing one Aqua Dam entirety across a riverbed where both ends can extend up the shoreline bank.
